Majestic Bald Eagle-This eagle is
completely carved from one antler aside
from the small added antler on the bottom
to hold it up. I cannot tell you how many
people, including carvers, who believe
the eagle was added as well as some of
the branches, you can see from the photo
of the back this is not the case. It is
carved in low relief with great detail,
every feather is carved and detailed.
Although it is hard to see in the photos
each feather has a light white brush
stroke on them that is just visible to the
eye for added feather depth. Because of
the large cutouts for the branch shapes
using the existing points I stripped all of
the natural brown outer surface of the
antler which left wonderful tool marks. I
then stained the entire piece with antler
stain, used acrylic paint on the eagle and
sealed the whole piece with satin
lacquer. This piece stands 33" tall and 25"
wide.
